Tiles are one of the most common main materials we use to decorate our houses, but many owners don’t know how to tell whether the tiles are good or bad. Some hearsay experiences often lead owners to fall into some misunderstandings, resulting in them spending money but not getting the quality and effect they deserve.
Today, Zhongtao Jun will share the five most common misunderstandings when buying ceramic tiles for decoration, and remind everyone to avoid lightning.
Myth 1: Guangdong bricks must be the best
"When buying bricks, buy Guangdong bricks." I believe many owners have heard this sentence. Indeed, Guangdong is the first region in China to start making ceramics. With its rich and high-quality raw material resources, continuous accumulation of talents, and strict internal control corporate standards for ceramic tile products, Guangdong has become a gathering place for Chinese architectural ceramics, and its reputation is world-renowned.
However, with the reputation of Guangdong bricks being so great, there are naturally some companies that are trying to fish in troubled waters. For example, some manufacturers in Jiangxi, Fujian, Shandong and other places will register companies in Guangdong and claim to be the "Guangdong bricks" brand.
Of course, Guangdong, by virtue of its first-mover advantage, is more famous than the main producing areas of architectural ceramics in Shandong, Jiangxi, Fujian and Sichuan, but this does not mean that the quality of non-Guangdong bricks is not good. In recent years, as big brands in the ceramic industry have continued to put into production in Gao'an, Jiangxi, Tengxian, Guangxi and other places, the quality of ceramic tiles in other production areas has become better and better.
Therefore, the majority of property owners do not need to insist on Guangdong bricks when buying bricks. Of course, if the owner friends have their own way and can buy authentic Guangdong bricks, that would be great.
Myth 2: The thicker the tiles, the better
Due to lack of understanding of ceramic tiles, many homeowners think that thicker ceramic tiles are more resistant to pressure and have better quality when choosing ceramic tiles. In fact, the thickness of the tiles has no causal relationship with the quality of the tiles. On the contrary, thicker tiles are more inconvenient to lay.
From the perspective of physical properties, although the thickness of thin ceramic tiles and ceramic sheets is only half that of traditional ceramic tiles, the product strength is no worse than traditional ceramic tiles, and is even stronger than traditional ceramic tiles in terms of toughness; in terms of use value Speaking of, ceramic tiles are mostly used for paving the floor and lining the walls. When paving the floor, since the tiles are in full contact with the ground, their flexural strength is related to the impact force and has nothing to do with the thickness, and thin ceramic tiles also save space. If used on walls, the volume of thin ceramic tilesSmall, light, and safer.
According to the national standard, the thickness of ceramic tiles cannot exceed 13.5mm. This also shows from the side that the flexural strength, wear resistance and other indicators of ceramic tiles with a thickness below 13.5mm still meet the standards.
Myth 3: The whiter the bricks, the better the quality
Everyone has always believed that the whiter the color of the ceramic tile body, the fewer impurities in the ceramic tile and the better the quality. However, this is not the case.
The ceramic tile body is made by calcining clay, quartz, and feldspar. The raw materials appear white. In addition, before firing, the raw materials will be removed from impurities, and some colored gold such as iron ions will be filtered out, thereby obtaining a whiter body. . Due to different raw materials, the ceramic tile bodies in major production areas also have certain differences. For example, the brick bodies in Guangdong are whiter; the brick bodies in Jiajiang are redder. The reason why owners and friends believe that the whiter the ceramic tiles are, the better the quality is. This is because people use the whiteness of the ceramic tiles to determine whether the ceramic tiles are from Guangdong, and thus determine the quality of the ceramic tiles.
In fact, the fact that the ceramic tile body appears white does not mean that the raw materials have few impurities, but because of the use of high-whiteness raw materials such as white mud. With the vigorous development of the ceramic industry, white mud resources have been basically exhausted. Therefore, in order to cater to consumer demand, ceramic tile manufacturers often use the method of adding zirconium silicate to the mud to improve the whiteness of the body. Zirconium silicate itself is not radioactive, but its raw material is the mineral zircon sand, so it is inevitably mixed with a small amount of radioactive impurities, such as Ra (radium), U (uranium), Th (thorium), K (potassium), etc. . Although the amount of zirconium silicate used in ceramic tiles is very small and there are strict regulations, it does not rule out that some unscrupulous manufacturers add excessive zirconium silicate to the ceramic tiles in order to beautify the body.
Therefore, when purchasing ceramic tiles, consumers should pay attention to the 3C certification and radioactive type of the ceramic tile. If it does not meet the requirements or does not indicate the type, it is deemed unqualified.
Myth 4: Color difference means poor quality
Color difference is a situation that homeowners often encounter when buying bricks. Many people think this is a quality problem. However, although color difference is an unavoidable error in ceramic tiles, it does not affect the quality of ceramic tiles.
During the production process of ceramic tiles, the raw materials, temperatures, batches, etc. are different. Each batch and each color number are different. This is an unavoidable problem with current production technology. In addition, excessive soaking of tiles in water can also cause discoloration of the tiles.
Therefore, owners and friends should try their best to choose the same batch of ceramic tiles when purchasing. They should also test the ceramic tiles before laying them to observe the effect of the ceramic tiles to avoid obvious color differences after the laying. Similarly, owners and friends should purchase 5%-10% more when purchasing ceramic tiles to avoid later replenishment.
Myth five: hollowing, falling off, cracking, etc. after paving must be of poor quality
When ceramic tiles appear to bulge, fall off, or crack after being laid, they are not necessarily caused by quality problems in the product itself, but are also related to the skill of the master who laid them. For example, if the ceramic tiles are hollowed out, there are no seams left in the tiles, the water is not fully and evenly soaked, the quality of the cement mortar is not up to standard, and the cement label is too high, etc., these will affect the paving effect, and hollowing of the ceramic tiles may occur later. Therefore, when owners and friends encounter this situation and need to protect consumer rights, they need to analyze it calmly.
